White, Waxley work their magic for Airline baseball

Carter White did his magic on the mound and Harrison Waxley waved the wand at the plate to lead Airline to an 8-1 win over Natchitoches Central in District 1-5A baseball action at Airline Tuesday.

The Vikings remain the only team in district with just one loss at 5-1. Benton and Parkway picked up wins as well and are tied for second at 5-2. Haughton fell to Captain Shreve and dropped to 4-3.

White allowed just three hits in six innings, giving up only one first-inning run. He walked two and struck out two. Ian Sullivan pitched a perfect seventh inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Waxley singled, doubled and tripled and drove in three runs. Mason Morgan was 2-for-4 and singled in two of Airline’s three first inning runs. Carson Carey singled in the third run with one of his two hits.

Clayton Brandon had multiple hits for Airline as well going 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Brock Laird singled twice for NCHS.

CAPTAIN SHREVE 11, HAUGHTON 1: The Gators shocked the host Bucs in six innings as Blake Fant pitched a complete game one-hitter at Haughton. Cole Criswell homered and doubled and drove in two runs for Shreve (10-14, 3-4). Walker Wicklund had a single and double and three RBI. John Hoyte Chance and Christopher Peyton also had doubles. Fant was 2-for-4 at the plate and allowed only a double to Colin Rains, while Fant walked three and struck out four. Haughton, who was No. 6 in the Class 5A power ratings according to GeauxPreps, falls to 17-5 overall.

PARKWAY 12, SOUTHWOOD 0: The Panthers got the five-inning run-rule win at Southwood as three pitchers combined to pitch a 3-hit shutout. Zachary Clute had a home run in going 2-for-2, with three RBI and three runs scored. Shawn Driggers doubled and Barrett Newman was 2-for-2 with a double for Parkway (12-11, 5-2). Jaden Clark had both of Southwood’s hits.

EVANGEL 17, WOODLAWN 0, 3 innings: The Eagles got eight hits and walked seven times in the win over the Knights. Eli Sheen and Caleb Lenard both had two hits with Lenard getting a triple. Isaac Erickson hit a 3-run home run Kody Jackson had a double and scored three runs for Evangel (12-10, 2-0).

NORTHWOOD 15, BTW 0, 3 innings: Jacob Murray and Kendall Flournoy struck out seven of nine batters faced and the Falcons had 12 hits. Tyre Cody had three hits and three runs scored, Christian Blackmon delivered two hits and two RBI, as did Ryan Gardner for Northwood (18-6, 1-0).

CALVARY 9, CLAIBORNE CHRISTIAN 1: Six Cavalier pitchers combined to limit Claiborne to four hits while they struck out 12. Cade Bedgood singled, doubled and homered in going 3-for-3 with two RBI, Caden Flowers singled and tripled and Logan Fontenot had two doubles and three RBI. Cody VanNoppen picked up the win by going two innings and striking out four. He was 2-for-3 with a double for Calvary (14-10).
