Sterlington softball outlasts Haughton in extra innings

Sterlington scored four runs in the eighth inning to get past Haughton 9-5 Tuesday in a non-district softball game at Haughton.

The Lady Panthers scored four runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 5-4 but Haughton’s Brooklynn Bockhaus homered In the home half of the fifth and the game would go an extra inning before Sterlington put it away.in the eighth.

Haughton started fast by scoring three runs in the first inning. Averi Phillips singled in one run and Laney Dobrow doubled in the other two.

A Sara White home run in the fourth gave the Lady Bucs a 4-1 lead before Sterlington mounted its comeback.

Ariana Mathews was the only Lady Buc with multiple hits, going 3-for-4.

Haughton falls to 14-11 while Sterlington goes to 17-9.

BENTON 16, CAPTAIN SHREVE 1: The Lady Tigers needed just four innings to dispose of the Lady Gators in a District 1-5A game in Benton. Megan Risher had two triples in going 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBI to lead Benton. Sophia Livers had two triples as well, while Christina Gegg and Meaux Carroll were both 2-for-3 with Carroll getting a double. Olivia Burns had a double and drove in three runs. Addison Smith had two of Shreve’s four hits on the day.

BYRD 17, WESTON 7: The Lady Jackets scored eight runs in the first inning to set the tone in defeating the Lady Wolves. Jenna Smith got the win in the circle and also had three hits. Morgan Cantrell had two doubles and Hadley Tompkins had a double and two RBI and Samantha Ramsey drove in two for Byrd, 7-15 overall.

EVANGEL 16, HUNTINGTON 6: The Lady Eagles took advantage of 17 walks by Lady Raider pitching to post the District 1-4A win. Rachel Turnbow walked four times and had one of Evangel’s three hits on the day. Turnbow scored three runs and courtesy runner Caroline Tew scored four runs. Haven Brooks, Gabbi Olague, Jordan Miller and Holly Hanks all scored twice for ECA.

SOUTHWOOD 18-22, SALINE 3-8: Jayda Martin drove in four runs, McKynzie Smith three in the first-game win and Brooke Fielder tripled and drove in four in the second-game victory. Smith and Olivia Turner both drove in two runs in the second game and Anicia Taylor was 2-for-2 with a triple for Southwood, 14-8.
