Parkway edges Benton, moves into first-place tie in 1-5A

Parkway scored two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to get past Benton 6-5 Thursday night in a District 1-5A baseball game on its home field.

With the district win the Panthers are now tied at 4-1 with Haughton, who handed Airline its first loss in four games.

Zach Schoenborn doubled home Tanner Kirkland to break a 4-4 tie and put the Panthers up 5-4. Cade Josting followed with a single to score Schoenborn for a 6-4 lead through five innings.

Benton loaded the bases in the seventh inning on a Cole Weir single and two walks with one out. Tyler Bouillion came in to relieve Cade Josting and got a ground out that scored Weir and a fly out to end the game and record the save.

Josting got the win while allowing five hits and five runs. He walked three and struck out eight.

Barrett Newman was 2-for-3 for Parkway, now 11-10 overall.

Weir was 2-for-3 for Benton, who slips to 11-9, 3-2.

BYRD 4, CAPTAIN SHREVE 3: The Yellow Jackets scored the winning run in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie on a Lake Lambert bunt single. Lambert’s hit scored Brooks Brossette, who reached second base on a two-base error. Byrd (11-9, 2-3) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on just one hit, three walks and an error. Tyler Nichols and Lambert both had two hits for the Jackets.

Shreve (8-14, 1-4) battled back to tie with a three-run fourth inning. Bryce Powell had a bases-loaded double to score Christopher Peyton and Hunter Willis. Rhyson Carroway scored the tying run on a Cole Criswell ground out. Powell’s extra-base hit was his third of the game.

CALVARY 28, RINGGOLD 1: The Cavaliers had 22 hits in the District 1-1A win at home. Hutch Grace, Jackson Legg and Kyzer Smith all had two hits and 3 RBI for Calvary 12-10, 2-0. Cade Bedgood, Blaine Rogers and Sawyer Fowler joined in the two-hit brigade. Rogers and Fowler drove in two runs.

SOUTHWOOD 11, LOGANSPORT 4: The Cowboys got two hits each from their first five batters in the lineup to win on the road. Jaydenn Booker had two doubles and Hunter Wallace singled and doubled and drove in four runs. Devin Watkins, Jaden Clark and Kaiden Snelgrove also had two hits with Watkins scoring five runs.

SOFTBALL

PARKWAY 13, LOGANSPORT 10: The Lady Panthers overcame seven errors with 12 hits as Chloe Larry went 4-for-5 with a triple and 3 RBI. Hayleah Thornton had a single and double and drove in four runs. Madison Pye had two doubles and 3 RBI and Mikaylah Williams singled and homered and scored three runs. Kayleigh Driggers also homered and drove in two runs.

AIRLINE 22, SOUTHWOOD 0: The Lady Vikings had 20 hits in the game paced by Jina Baffuto’s 5-for-5, with two triples and four runs scored. Paris Endris had a home run among her three hits and drove in seven runs. Aleena Duran had two doubles, a single and 4 RBI for Airline, 17-6 overall and tied for first in District 1-5A with Natchitoches Central at 6-1.

BENTON 16, MINDEN 4: Marissa Schoth doubled and tripled and drove in four runs as the Lady Tigers won at home. Sophia Livers singled and doubled and Emersyn Disotell had two hits and scored three runs as Benton improved to 15-6.
