Haughton overwhelms Minden for baseball win

Haughton used three 3-run innings to post a 10-1 defeat of Minden in a home baseball game Wednesday night.

The Bucs now 8-1 on the season got a solid effort from winning pitcher Ethan Robinson who picked up his third win in three decisions on the season. He worked 6 innings, allowing one run on 4 hits.

Roman Tolbert came on in the seventh to close things out by striking out the side.

Tolbert, who started at first base, was 4-for-4, with a solo home run, drove in three runs and scored three times. Caleb Brown scored two runs and stole a couple bases and Austin Anderson was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

The Bucs will play a pair of home games Thursday in the Jason Bland Invitational, facing Texas High out of Texarkana, Texas at 1 p.m. and Ruston at 5 p.m.

CAPTAIN SHREVE 14, NORTHWOOD 5: The Gators wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with 3-run first and second innings on their way to a non-district win in Blanchard. Starting and winning pitcher Blake Fant and John Chance both had a double and two singles to lead a 13-hit attack. Chance drove in three runs while Shelton Harville and Korbyn Harrell each drove in a pair. Fant allowed just two hits in 5 1/3 innings and 3 runs with 4 strikeouts and 6 walks.

CONVERSE 14, SOUTHWOOD 4: The Wildcats scored 11 runs in the second inning to break a 3-3 tie and run-rule the Cowboys in 5 innings at Southwood Wednesday. The Cowboys managed 9 hits in the contest as Devin Watkins, Cody Snelgrove, Jaden Clark and Kaiden Snelgrove all had a pair of hits. Watkins’ two hits went for triples and Kaiden Snelgrove drove in two runs for Southwood (2-5).

SOFTBALL

BENTON 13, BYRD 1: The Lady Tigers opened District 1-5A play with the 6-inning run-rule win at home. Marissa Schoth led the 17-hit night for Benton with two triples a double and single and drove in three runs Piper Stephens had four hits as well and drove in four runs for the Tigers who have won 9 of 10 games this season. Sophia Livers and Christina Gegg both had a pair of doubles and Olivia Burns contributed one double and Taylor Gonzales a triple as Benton had 9 extra-base hits.
