Southwood was able to stave off a pesky Parkway Tuesday night to post a 70-54 District 1-5A win at Parkway.
The Cowboys got a long 3-pointer from sophomore Maurice Carson to end the first half and give the visitors a 33-24 lead at the break.
Southwood wasn’t able to get any distance from the Panthers until a Mar’Quarius Johnson dunk and a couple of treys with a little over four minutes left opened up a 61-48 advantage.
Southwood had a couple of players with double-doubles as senior Roderick Brown poured 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Jeremiah Evans had 15 points and, 17 rebounds. Johnson ended the night with 16 points and Darius Anderson 10.
Southwood stays tied in second place in 1-5A with Natchitoches Central at 7-2 and is 14-13 overall. Parkway slips to 5-16, 0-9.
AIRLINE 58, HAUGHTON 47: At Airline, the Vikings’ AJ Coleman led the way with 19 points, Colby O’glee scored 15 and Trevon Jackson 10. Airline is now 12-8 overall and 6-3 in District 1-5A. Haughton slipped to 14-11, 2-7.
CAPTAIN SHREVE 45, BENTON 41: At Benton, Christian Ford scored 15 points for the Gators who remain in first place in -5A at 9-1 and are now 19-5 overall, Kyron Reed added another 13 for Shreve. The Tigers (10-19, 3-6) got a game-high 19 points from Greg Manning.
NATCHITOCHES CENTRAL 44, BYRD 33: At Natchitoches, Justin Aaron had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Dalyn Davis tallied 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Chiefs remain one game behind Shreve in 1-5A at 7-2 and improve to 17-5 overall. Byrd falls one game under .500 at 11-12 overall and 3-7 in 1-5A.
HUNTINGTON 77, NORTH DESOTO 36: The Raiders had no issues in dispatching the Griffins to stay in first place in District 1-4A at 7-1 and 15-5 overall. ND remains winless in 1-4A at 0-8 and is 3-16 overall.
WOODLAWN 71, MINDEN 39: At Woodlawn, the Knights (20-8, 6-2) were led by Donovan Seamster with 24 points, Jamil Brooks scored 14 and grabbed 7 rebounds and Andri Lewis had 11 points and gave out 7 assists. Minden dips to 4-21, 1-6.
BOSSIER 53, LOYOLA 25: At Bossier, Lakavin Thomas recorded 12 of his 16 points in the second quarter when the Bearkats outscored the Flyers 26-7 and took a 35-10 halftime lead. Demarquise Tramel added another 11 points and Marquis Harris 10 as the Bearkats improved to 20-6 overall and 5-0 in District 1-3A. The Flyers are now 10-15, 2-4.
PLAIN DEALING 45, HAYNESVILLE 41: At Haynesville, the Lions go 15 points from Carnez Hillmon and Tyrese Kimble had 14. Plain Dealing picked up its second win in 18 games and first in District 1-1A against three losses.
