Parkway’s girls continue to roll, Chiefs and Gators lead 1-5A boys

Parkway’s girls basketball is on a roll winning its 15th straight in defeating Lafayette Christian 62-56 Saturday in the Hamilton Christian Martin Luther King Classic in Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles.

The Lady Panthers (20-2), who are the no. 2 team in the Class 5A power ratings, had their closest game since a Dec. 28 win in the West Monroe Tournament against Lafayette, 44-38.

Mikaylah Williams led Parkway with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Savannah Wilson was the only other Panther in double digits with 10 points.

Lafayette Christian star sophomore Jada Richard led all scorers with 39 points. The Knights (16-7) have the top power rating in Division III.

Haughton’s Lady Bucs picked up what might be the first ever win at Natchitoches Central on Friday night 48-39. The Lady Bucs (12-8, 2-4) got 30 points from Dakota Howard in the win that would be at least the first since the early 2000s.

Airline, still playing without leading scorer Kayla Hampton, got past Byrd 46-44 at home on Friday. Kori Rice led all scorers with 22 points for the Lady Vikes, now 18-8 overall and in second place in District 1-5A at 4-2.

Marissa Schloth’s two late free throws helped Benton get past Southwood and put the Tigers in a third place tie in District 1-5A. Schloff led the Tigers (15-7, 3-3) with 17 points while Maddy Ryan tallied 14 and Jada Stewart 10. Southwood dropped to 13-8, 3-3 with the loss.

Boys

Natchitoches Central and Captain Shreve are atop District 1-5A at 4-0 and both have lengthy win streaks. The Chiefs (14-3 overall) pushed their win streak to 11 games with a 64-39 win against Haughton last Friday. The Gators (15-4) 69-39 romp past Parkway ran their win streak to 8 games.

Kyron Reed led the Gators with 24 points that included four 3-pointers. Mekel Hart scored 14 and Jyrin Sowell tossed in 12.

Christian McCoy led the Panthers (5-11, 0-4) with 12 points.

Airline (9-6, 3-1) and Southwood (10-12, 3-1) are tied for second in 1-5A. The Vikings got a big game from AJ Coleman who poured in 25 points. Cameron Walker scored 15 and Trevon Jackson 13 as the Vikes won their third straight.

Southwood defeated Benton 65-49 on Friday as Senior guard Mar’Quarius Johnson led the way for the Pokes with 35 points and 3 assists. Sophomore forward Jeremiah Evans added 15 points, and 7 rebounds. Greg Manning led Benton with 28 points.

Bossier followed Thursday’s big defeat of Huntington with a 84-57 District 1-3A win at Loyola. The Bearkats (16-5, 2-0) were led by Javon Johnson’s 14 points. Joseph Manning got 12 and DeMarquise Tramiel 11.

Plain Dealing traveled to Homer in a 1-1A clash and came up on the shortend of a 68-66 contest. The Lions got 28 points from Carnez Hillmon, while Trevon Boyd added 16.
