District 1-1A begins play, Bossier overcomes Huntington

District play kicks off tonight for 1-1A in both the boys and girls. Calvary will pay a visit to newcomer Glenbrook. The Cavs boys sport an 8-7 overall mark against some tough competition that rewards them with a no. 2 power rating in Select Division IV. The Apaches, who are first-year entrants to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, have an overall record of 4-6 and will not be eligible for the post-season being a first-year school.

In other 1-1A games, Magnolia Charter (1-11) will travel to Haynesville (0-9) while Plain Dealing (1-12) visits Homer (2-6).

Just one night following a big win over Huntington, Bossier (15-5, 1-0) will play at Loyola (8-11, 1-0) in a key game. Mansfield (7-6, 0-0) will come to Shreveport to open district play and face Green Oaks (7-12, 0-1) who fell to Loyola in its league opener on Tuesday.

District 1-5A will feature Benton (8-15, 2-2) hosting Southwood (9-12, 2-1). The Cowboys have won their last two after falling to Captain Shreve in their opener. The Tigers have dropped their last two to league leading Captain Shreve and Natchitoches Central. Shreve (14-4, 3-0) will travel across the river to face Parkway (5-10, 0-3) and Natchitoches (13-3, 3-0) will host Haughton (12-7, 0-3). The other matchup has Byrd (9-7, 1-2) going to play at Airline (8-6, 2-1).

Booker T. Washington (14-6, 2-1) will try to stay close to league leader Huntington as it travels to Stonewall to face North DeSoto (2-9, 0-3). Evangel (12-5, 1-1) looks to keep pace as well as it plays at Minden (3-17, 0-2).

On the girls side, the always competitive District 1-5A will feature Benton (14-7, 2-3) hosting Southwood (13-7, 3-2). Captain Shreve (10-5, 3-2) will try to take down league leader Parkway (17-1, 5-0) and tighten things a bit. Looking to stay at or near the top of the league, Natchitoches Central (11-8 3-2) hosts Haughton (11-8, 1-4) and Airllne (17-8, 3-2) hosts Byrd (11-6, 0-4).

Booker T. Washington (15-10, 3-1) sitting in second place in 1-4A will go to North DeSoto (6-12, 1-3) and Evangel (0-9, 0-1) is on the road at Minden (7-1, 2-2).

Loyola (8-9, 1-0) will play its third game of the week when it hosts Bossier (4-8, 1-0) in a 1-3A clash. Mansfield (12-5, 0-0) will play at winless Green Oaks (0-16, 0-1).

In 1-1A, Calvary (5-6, 0-0) looks to even its record with a trip to Minden to play Glenbrook (6-5, 0-0). Homer (7-7, 0-0) will host Plain Dealing (8-12, 0-0).

BOSSIER 71, HUNTINGTON 54: At Bossier, the Bearkats fell behind early and trailed the Raiders 19-10 at the end of first quarter but rebounded to take a 37-31 halftime lead in getting the non-district win. Joseph Manning had a game-high 31 points for Bossier (15-5) and Jovan Johnson added 14. Rayshun McCullar led Huntington (11-4) with 26 points.
