There’s little question who was the top Class 5A performer, boys or girls, in local high school basketball this past season.

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association made that clear when it announced the Class 5A All-State basketball teams.

Kyndall Graham of girls District 1-5A champion Huntington made the All-State first team. She was the only local star to receive first or second-team distinction, although four others drew honorable mention recognition.

The 5-5 senior guard averaged 22.5 points while leading the Lady Raiders to their second straight state championship game and was the district MVP. She was honorable mention All-State last year as Huntington won the state title.

Her teammate, junior Kaylie Dupree, was one of three 1-5A players who made the girls honorable mention list along with senior Skylar Branch of Haughton and sophomore Shiloh Brokenberry from Captain Shreve.

On the boys All-State honorable mention, the only local 1-5A player included was Kevin White of Airline.

Boys 1-5A MVP Jadell Demery of Natchitoches Central, the league champion, made the All-State second team. Another Chiefs senior, Harold Remo, was honorable mention. The Lady Chiefs’ top player, senior Annalise Newman, was honorable mention on the girls All-State roster.

Two five-person teams were selected, along with a more extensive honorable mention list.

First-team all-district players are eligible for consideration for All-State honors. Twelve LSWA members who cover high school sports select the all-state teams..
