Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two-vehicle crash on April 8 around 9:15 am on Interstate 220 near U.S. Highway 71. The crash claimed the life of 24-year-old Lareka Jones of Bossier City.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Jones, was traveling west on Interstate 220. For reasons still under investigation, Jones’ vehicle exited the roadway and collided with a parked tractor-trailer occupied by another motorist.
Jones, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The occupant of the parked tractor-trailer was not injured. Impairment is not suspected; however, standard toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Louisiana State Police urges drivers to obey all traffic laws and never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can mean the difference between life and death.
