Shreveport Police Department patrol officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at approximately 5:33pm in the 9200 block of Baird Rd., near the 2000 block of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. 

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the passenger of the vehicle, who reported they were traveling along Baird Rd. when the driver, her grandmother, unexpectedly began to accelerate. The vehicle veered off the roadway to the left and collided with a traffic pole.

The driver was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport in life-threatening condition. Despite medical efforts, her condition continued to decline, and on Feb. 1 she succumbed to her injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have suffered a medical episode, which is believed to have contributed to the crash. This incident marks the third traffic fatality in Shreveport in 2025.
