Parkway tops 1-5A, Calvary, Loyola 1-2A in all-sports points

Parkway finished the 2023-24 sports calendar at the top of the District 1-5A All-Sports point total while Calvary and Loyola topped 1-2A.

The Panthers were the most balanced school in tally of points in 1-5A with just one (girls basketball) district title in finishing with 43 points. They finished in a second place tie in both baseball and softball, was second and third in boys and girls track respectively and finished no lower than fifth in the seven sports that made up the tally.

Airline (39 ½) was second just a ½ point ahead of Captain Shreve and Benton (39). Top finishes for the Vikings were a second in football and they won both boys and girls track titles. Shreve won outright titles in football and baseball and tied for the boys basketball title. Benton was second in girls track and tied for second in baseball and softball.

Calvary and Loyola both had 32 points in 1-2A. The Cavaliers won titles in football, boys and girls basketball and softball. Loyola won girls track, was second in boys track and girls basketball and third four other sports.

Huntington was the top Caddo-Bossier school in 1-4A, finishing in second behind North DeSoto. The Griffins led all schools with 47 points, Huntington with 43 ½ and Northwood 39 ½. The Raiders was first in girls basketball and boys and girls track. Northwood was first in baseball and second in girls basketball and boys track.

Points were tallied by giving schools with first place finishes the number of points for however many schools competed in that sport. In 1-5A eight schools competed in each of the seven sports so district champions got eight points. The rest of the places counted down a point with second getting seven points, third six, ect.

The sports used were football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, softball and boys and girls track.
