Top local teams Airline, Calvary get softball wins

Airline and top-rated Calvary both picked up non-district softball wins Monday to start the final week of the regular season. 

The Lady Cavaliers, the No. 1 rated team in Select Division III, run-ruled Grant 14-1 in six innings at Calvary to run their record to 22-9 on the season. 

Airline, now 21-9 and the No. 11 rated team in Non-Select Division I, defeated Ouachita Christian 9-2 on its home field. 

CALVARY 14, GRANT 1: The Lady Cavs took the win as pitcher Kynzee Anderson struck out eight. At the plate, DJ Lynch was 4-for-4 with a triple, Tavia Leadon 3-for-4 with a double and triple, Mary Grace Woodle 2-for-3 with a double and home run, Mallory Carter 2-for-4 and Elana Franks ended the game with a grand slam for Calvary (22-9). Grant slips to 13-14 on the season.   

AIRLINE 9, OUACHITA CHRISTIAN 2:  Four Lady Vikes stood out at the plate in the win with Elena Heng leading the charge by going 3-for-4 with a triple and home run and three RBI. Lindsey Marcinkus was 2-for-3, Emily Rachal 2-for-3 including a double and two RBI, and Natalie Sutton was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.  

CONVERSE 4, PARKWAY 3: The visiting Lady Cats scored a pair of runs in the eighth and got a strikeout with the tying run at third to pick up the non-district win. Macee Thompson struck out eight in the circle and was 3-for-4 with a double at the plate for Parkway (10-13) and Madison Menard was 2-for-4. Converse, the No. 6 rated team in Non-Select Division V, is now 21-6 on the season. 

QUITMAN 5, HAUGHTON 0: The host Lady Wolverines, rated No. 2 in Non-Select Division V, improved to 25-5 on the season with the win. Haughton drops to 14-10 with the loss. The Lady Bucs could only manage four hits in the game.
