Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Commissioner Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes has announced that the conference will hold an admission fair at the 2023 GCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

The fair features all current members of the GCAC and will include incoming member University of the Virgin Islands, who joins the conference this July.

The GCAC HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Admission Fair will be held Friday, April 14 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 15 from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Lee Hedges Stadium in Shreveport. Interested participants are asked to register for the fair at bit.ly/gcac-hbcu-admission-fair.

“Each of our championships is focused on creating an experience for all participants and giving back to the community in which the championship is being held,” said Baker Barnes. “I am especially excited about this outreach effort because I grew up in Minden and have fond memories of running track at this very stadium.”

Representatives will answer questions and provide information about the admission process, financial aid, majors, and other important details about their institution. For many young scholars, admission fairs are the entry way for learning what is possible for their academic future.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students in Shreveport and surrounding communities to connect with our conference and learn more about what each of our schools has to offer,” Baker Barnes stated. “We want our young people to know that HBCUs may be their perfect match, and having an admission fair at our championship is a great way to engage and educate them on the possibilities.”

The GCAC HBCU Admission Fair is free of charge with paid admission to the championship. Tickets are $5 for adults. Students can attend the championship at no cost when they present a student ID.
