Whose coaching staff is especially impressive?

JOURNAL STAFF

Each week this fall the Shreveport-Bossier Journal will feature a question we ask all the local high school football coaches, and their answers will run each Wednesday.

This week’s question:

Not counting your staff, which high school football program do you consider to have the best coaching staff? Why?

Austin Brown, Northwood High School

Benton. Top to bottom, they have the most ‘coaches’– they get a lot out of their kids.”

Justin Scogin, Airline High School

Hard to answer. I don’t know enough staffs here and I feel it would be hard for anyone to have as good of a staff as we do.”

Jason Brotherton, Haughton High School

Parkway — Great young coaches.  There are a few things that make coaches great. 1. They have to love kids and love football. 2. They have to be hard workers. 3. They have to be intelligent. (Parkway head coach) Coy (Brotherton) has several guys that check those boxes that are young. There are several future head coaches on that staff. I think people will look back in 10-15 years and say, ‘that was a great staff.’”

Stephen Dennis, Huntington High School

“Stacy Ballew and the consistency that Byrd has shown over the years. The names and the numbers change every year but the results stay the same. That’s coaching. Parkway’s staff has done a really good job. Coy (Brotherton) has two young coordinators in Matthew Sewell (offense) and Dillon Jackson (defense) do an amazing job.”

Mike Greene, Loyola College Prep

“For the long haul, Byrd’s staff has done a really good job. I know a lot of them and have coached with some of them. They are very prepared every week. And Parkway has a really good young staff.”

Jesse Esters III, Southwood High School

Woodlawn – Coach (Thedrick) Harris does a great job with his coaches.”

Reynolds Moore, Benton High School

Top to bottom I guess I’d say Northwood or Shreve. I feel like those guys do a really good job of coaching up their kids and scheming against opponents.”

Coy Brotherton, Parkway High School

“Byrd.”

Chadwick Lewis, Green Oaks High School

C.E. Byrd because of the consistency of the program for the last 20 plus years. No matter who plays for them, the young men are prepared.”

Clint Walker, Plain Dealing

“Parkway – good mix of young coaches and experienced coaches who know the game and always compete.”

Adam Kirby, Captain Shreve High School

“In the area – Byrd. They have their guys ready to go every Friday night and even though you know what they’re going to do, you still have trouble defending it. Discipline is at the core of what they do and when they step on the field, they expect to win.”

“In the state – Edna Karr / Zachary. What they have been able to do consistently over the last 10 years is incredible. Coach Brown at Karr and Coach Brewerton at Zachary are winners and their kids feed off of it. Coach Brewerton has won state titles as the head coach at both Zachary and Livonia and Coach Brown has been at Karr for all of their success.”
