Admit it: when you saw last Friday night’s Benton-Byrd score, you were very surprised.
Among the hundreds of people who entered the Week 5 Shreveport-Bossier Journal High School Pick ‘Em Contest, only two predicted Benton would pull the upset. One of those pickers went on to a 10-0 record on the 10 games in the contest and cashed in.
Scott Aymond, a retired coach and principal, cashed in Tuesday when he collected the Week 5 Pick ‘Em prize of $250.
Aymond explained his reasoning: 1) Byrd was coming off an emotionally-charged win over rival Captain Shreve in a matchup of neighborhood rivals; 2) Benton did fall to Airline, after losing at Newman a week earlier, but averaged 55 points in those two games; and 3) the Tigers were at home and had something to prove to themselves and everybody else.
Winner, winner, plenty of chicken dinners.
Now it’s time to make your picks for Week 6 of local high school football. There are several heavy favorites this week, but as Benton showed, that’s not all it’s cranked up to be. However, if those games go according to Lang’s Lines, the Pick ‘Em winner this weekend could be determined by the points predicted to be scored, combined, in the two selected contests. Keep in mind that the point total has to be at, or under, the actual combined score.
Participation is very simple for anyone able to access this link:
The Pick ‘Em portal opens to a menu of game-by-game matchups, with an easy click to pick winning teams for each contest. Two local games will be used as tiebreakers, with participants predicting the total points scored in those games.
