Parkway has taken over as the new No. 1 in the Shreveport Bossier Journal Top 10 football poll.
Ranked second, the Panthers beat then-No. 3 Captain Shreve 25-13 last Thursday while Byrd, the previous No. 1, fell hard to Benton 63-28. The Yellow Jackets, who have a win over Shreve, slipped just one spot to No. 2 while Benton made the biggest jump from No. 8 to No. 3 after the eye-opening upset.
As a result of its loss to Parkway, Captain Shreve dropped one spot to No. 4. Surging Airline remained at No. 5 after its first shutout of the season, a 46-0 defeat of Natchitoches Central that the Vikings led 39-0 at halftime.
Despite lopsided wins Calvary, Huntington and Haughton all fell victim to the reshuffling. Calvary dropped two spots to No. 6 after a 52-6 defeat of Mansfield. Huntington dipped one spot to No. 7 after a 60-27 win over Minden and Haughton faded at No. 8 after beating Southwood 37-24.
Northwood remained at No. 9 after defeating Bossier 48-12. North Caddo moved back into the Top 10 at No. 10 with its 28-27 defeat of previously unbeaten Class 5A West Ouachita.

Benton and Huntington remain atop the against-the-spread (ATS) standings halfway through the season. The Tigers pulled off the biggest upset of the season as they took Byrd to the woodshed as 23.5-point underdogs.
There are still two teams, BTW and Plain Dealing, that have yet to cover a spread this season. Those teams are getting 94 combined points this week. Maybe it’s time.
The spreads continue to be pretty amazing. The favorites are 63-8 on the season and 36-35 against the number. Insanely solid lines! Let’s keep it up as we start the second half.
