CADEVILLE – With their heels in the end zone, the North Caddo defense stood tall on fourth and inches to knock off previously undefeated West Ouachita in a 28-27 thriller Friday.
The Class 2A Titans (4-1) held the Class 5A Chiefs four times inside the 5-yard line late in the fourth quarter, making one more stand on a night of stands.
“The game was back and forth all night, and our defense really made the difference,” said North Caddo coach JJ Kavanaugh. “They were warriors, and they made play after play on defense.
“KJ Black, Omarion Miller and Aiden Brock were great as normal on offense.”
North Caddo’s second road trip to Ouachita Parish in as many weeks (the first was a 50-24 loss at Neville) proved fruitful as the Titans knocked off the previously undefeated Chiefs (4-1).
Brock found both Black and Miller on passing touchdowns while Black and Miller each added a rushing score.
The Titans start District 1-2A play by hosting Calvary Baptist this coming week.
Alexandria Senior High 66, Green Oaks 8: Green Oaks answered Alexandria Senior High in the early going on the road, but the Class 5A Trojans used their depth and athleticism en route to the 66-8 win.
After the Trojans (3-2) scored an early touchdown, Green Oaks (1-4) found the end zone with a Tovoras Lee pass to Amarion Dorsey. Delarrious Marshall added the two-point conversion to tie the game 8-8 in the first quarter.
But ASH scored 42 points in the first half to pull away.
“We were out-manned,” said Green Oaks coach Chadwick Lewis. “We competed and showed flashes at times, and we showed movement on offense.
“We’re still looking for that consistency. We only had one turnover tonight, so that’s a bright spot.”
The Giants begin District 1-2A play this week when Loyola visits.
North DeSoto 55, BTW 6: The Griffins continued their roll through District 1-4A with the 49-point win.
All five of the wins for the Griffins (5-0, 2-0) have been by at least 25 points.
The struggles for the Lions (0-5, 0-2) persisted as they’ve scored in single digits in four of their five contests.
BTW will meet the district’s other undefeated member in Huntington (3-2, 2-0) this coming week while North DeSoto draws Woodlawn (2-3, 1-1).
Haynesville 48, Plain Dealing 0: Haynesville coach David Franklin earned his 200th career win Friday as the Golden Tornado picked up the shutout at Plain Dealing.
Haynesville (4-1, 1-1 District 1-1A) bounced back with the win after suffering a blow to Glenbrook in the district opener.
Plain Dealing (0-5, 0-2) gets the other Claiborne Parish power in Homer next week.
The Lions had a near miss in an overtime loss to Ringgold this past week.
Westgate 77, Magnolia School of Excellence 0: What’s the last thing Magnolia School of Excellence needed to see on the other sideline? How about the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A waiting on them after a long bus ride south of Lafayette?
Westgate (5-0) scored the most points in the state this season with 77, which topped Airline’s 75 this past week.
Magnolia (0-5) continues its extremely challenging search for the first win of the season as it next faces coach David Feaster’s resurgent Glenbrook program.
