Southwood downs Byrd for first District 1-5A softball win

Southwood got a complete game two-hitter from Riley Myers to defeat Byrd 12-1 for its first District 1-5A win on the season Friday at Byrd.

Myers struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter in the five-inning game. At the plate she was 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI. Olivia Turner was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI as Southwood improved to 11-8 overall and 1-6 in district.

Kayla Beckett, Brooke Fielder and Mckynzie Smith all had doubles for Southwood, who finished with 12 hits.

CAPTAIN SHREVE 17, NORTH CADDO 11: The Lady Gators picked up the non-district win on Senior Day. All three seniors got hits with Marina Elkins going 1-for-1 with four walks and scoring four runs. Winning pitcher Mikel-Ann Ricardo had a triple, two walks and drove in two while Kayla Currie had a hit and scored a run. Elexa Beaudoin led Shreve (14-9) with four hits that included a double and she drove in three runs. Freshman Aubry Townsend had a home run and Addison Smith was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

MENARD 7, AIRLINE 5: In the first game of two on the road in Alexandria, the Lady Vikings scored two runs on an Aleena Duran home run in the fifth inning to tie the game 5-5 only to see the Lady Eagles score two runs in the eighth. Elena Heng was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Duran also had a single and was the only other Airline player with multiple hits. Paris Endris had a solo home run in a two-run first inning and Jina Baffuto scored the first run after a leadoff double.

ALEXANDRIA 4, AIRLINE 2: Playing their second game of the day in Menard Tournament in Alexandria, the Lady Trojans scored two runs in the fifth inning to outlast the Lady Vikings. Airline (17-8) got both runs in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2. Baffuto led off with a double, Heng singled and Paris Endris singled to score Baffuto. A Lindsey Marcinkus sacrifice moved both runners up and after a fly out, Emily Rachal singled in Heng with the second run. Heng finished with two of Airline’s five hits. Rachal suffered the defeat in the circle allowing eights in six innings.

CALVARY 16, MINDEN 0: The Lady Cavaliers picked up the win in three innings. Ramsey Walker, Mary Grace Woodle and Tavia Leadon all had a double and home run and drove in three runs in the shortened game for Calvary, now 17-11.

FRIDAY

MINDEN 15, EVANGEL 6: The Lady Eagles took a 6-5 lead into the seventh inning only to give up 10 runs to fall to the Lady Tide at home. Gabbi Olague was 3-for-4 with a double, Haven Brooks 2-for-3 with a double, Jordan Miller 2-for-3 and Rachel Turnbow tripled for Evangel.
