Rain didn’t stop Haughton’s Anderson in no-hitter of Benton

Benton had more than five inches of rain Monday night into Tuesday and somehow the Tigers managed to host their District 1-5A baseball opener with Haughton.

All that precipitation didn’t seem to bother Haughton pitcher Austin Anderson as he threw a five-inning no-hitter in the Bucs’ 16-0 run-rule win.

Anderson picked up his fifth win on the season without a loss in striking out 11 and walking three. He also had three hits at the plate and drove in two runs.

Colin Rains and Roman Tolbert both had four hits, with all four of Rains’ hits going for extra bases. He finished with three doubles and a home run, scored four times and drove in five runs. Tolbert had a double and drove in four runs.

Nick Hensley scored three runs and Josh Sewell scored twice and drove in two runs for the Bucs, now 14-2 overall and 1-0 in 1-5A.

Benton is 7-8, 0-1.

Game two in the series will be Thursday at Haughton.
