Airline took a comfortable early lead on its way to a 11-5 District 1-5A win at Benton Thursday night.
The Lady Vikings scored in each of the first three innings to get out to a 5-0 lead before the Lady Tigers could get on the board with a couple runs. Airline held on to a 5-2 lead until it exploded for five runs in the sixth inning. Benton countered with three in the bottom of the sixth but the Vikes added the final run of the game in the seventh.
Aleena Duran went the full seven innings for the win, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. She struck out 13.
Paige Marshall started the scoring for Airline with a 2-run triple in the first inning. Lindsey Marcinkus scored on an error in the second inning to give the Vikes a 3-0 lead. Airline added two more runs in the third on a Emily Rachal double and a Marcinkus single.
Benton took advantage of an error and double steal to get its two runs in the third. Megan Risher scored on a misplayed fly ball after leading off the inning with a double and Taylor Gonzales stole home to pull the Tigers to within 5-2.
Airline’s 5-run sixth inning was keyed by Marshall’s second run-scoring triple of the game, this one driving in three runs. A bases-loaded walk by Paris Endris drove in a run and a ground out by Rachal drove in Marshall with the other run.
Marcinkus and Natalie Sutton joined Marshall with a couple of hits. Aubrey Jeane had a triple to go with Marshall’s two.
Christina Gegg led Benton (9-2, 1-1) with two hits and Piper Stephens drove in two runs.
CAPTAIN SHREVE 16, NORTH CADDO 4: Maggie Guy sandwiched a couple singles around two doubles to lead the Lady Gators (6-4). Guy, hitting in the cleanup position, did just that with 4 RBIs and Elexa Beaudoin had two doubles in four at bats as Shreve took advantage 13 walks by Titan pitching.
ST. MARY’S 9, PARKWAY 4: The Lady Panthers fell to 3-3 on the season despite a 2-for-3 day at the plate by Mikaylah Williams that included two doubles. Fellow basketball player Chloe Larry had a double and Kayleigh Driggers had a pair of hits.
EVANGEL 18, WOODLAWN 0: The Lady Eagles were led at the plate by Gabbi Olague who had two hits and 4 RBIs. Joy Tillman had a double, Haven Brooks and Zakiah Steward both tripled as Evangel took advantage of 13 walks by Knight pitching.
