Pitching gems highlight prep diamond action

Visiting North DeSoto used three pitchers to twirl a 2-hit 1-0 shutout of Byrd baseball Thursday.

Kameron Mangum started on the mound for the Griffins and pitched the first five innings allowing no hits. He struck out five and walked just one to get the win. Landen Williams and Dalton Hill came on in relief, each pitching an inning and giving up a hit.

Hill scored the only run of the game. After getting on with the first of his two singles, Hill advanced to third when a bunt resulted in an error and he scored on a double play.

Patrick Snead was the unfortunate losing pitcher for Byrd. Snead pitched the full seven innings, allowing six hits, one unearned run. He struck out four and walked four.

CALVARY 10, CAPTAIN SHREVE 0: Two Cavalier pitchers combined to shut out the Gators on two hits in six innings at Captain Shreve. Drew Bickham got the win pitching the first five innings, allowing the two hits and striking out five. Hutch Grace pitched the final inning, striking out two of the three batters he faced. Aubrey Hermes paced the Calvary hit attack with two singles and drove in a run.

HAUGHTON 8, LOYOLA 3: The Bucs took the first game of a three-game series, this one at Pat Cicero Field in Shreveport. Ethan Robinson (2-0) went the distance for the Bucs allowing four hits. He walked three and struck out four in the seven innings. Joshua Sewell drove in two runs and stole two bases, Parker Lowrie was 2-for-3 and Chan Lytle scored three runs. Konnor O’Neal and Gray Deason both had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run for the Flyers.

AIRLINE 10, FRANKLIN PARISH 1: The Vikings used a seven-run fourth inning in the blowout win. Keegan Lehr, Tyler Ferguson, Matthew Scripture, Mason Morgan and Carson Carey all drove in runs in the big inning for Airline. Scripture led an 11-hit attack with three singles in five at bats and drove in three runs. Carey and Lehr were both 2-for-4, with Lehr scoring three runs.

SOFTBALL

BENTON 2, STANLEY 0: Ava Defee pitched the shutout for the Lady Tigers, allowing four hits in the seven innings and striking out nine. Christina Gegg and Livers Sophia hit home runs. Sophia and Piper Stephens each had a pair of hits.

CAPTAIN SHREVE 13, CADDO MAGNET 0: Mikel-Ann Ricardo pitched a perfect five innings, striking out 14 while leading the Lady Gators past the Mustangs. Ricardo also cracked a three-run home run and Elexa Beaudoin was 2-for-2 with two triples and drove in two runs for the Gators.

ST. MARY’S 10, EVANGEL 0: Grace Wren allowed no hits in shutting down the Eagles in five innings. Wren struck out eight and walked three in the circle and was 2-for-2 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Georgia Kate Philen added a pair of singles and Addison Price drove in two runs for the Tigers.
