The Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s soccer playoffs began Monday with Round One to be completed by Wednesday night. Round Two will be played Thursday through Saturday. Here’s a preview of all local boys and girls teams who earned the right to keep playing.

One local squad was in action Monday evening. The No. 24 Airline boys (12-12) were eliminated in Youngsville, outside of Lafayette, by ninth-seeded Southside (16-10-1) by an 8-0 spread in the Division I first round.

Six teams, including the all-local matchup of Northwood and Haughton, play first-round games today.

Girls Division I

No. 4 Captain Shreve (23-1-3) opens the playoffs at 5 today against 29th seeded Denham Springs (10-10-2), at Lee Hedges Stadium. In the second round it will either host Baton Rouge or travel to Thibodaux.

Eighth-seeded Byrd (14-5-8) is hosting 25th seeded Walker (12-12-0) today at 4:30. In the second round Byrd would either host Mt Carmel or travel to New Iberia.

No. 26 Airline (11-10-4) travels to Lake Charles to meet 7th seeded Barbe (18-4-3) at 5 p.m. today. With a win, Airline would host either Lafayette or Sulphur in the second round.

Girls Division II

Second-seeded Caddo Magnet (13-5-3) received a bye. The Lady Mustangs will host the winner of Beau Chene and Bonnabel.

No. 5 seed Benton (14-9-4) received a bye. Benton will host the winner of Franklin Parish and South Terrebonne.

Girls Division III

No. 2 seeded Loyola (11-5-4) earned a bye and will host the winner of E.D. White and Grant. Having been to the state finals in each of the last three years, this squad is finals or bust.

Girls Division IV

Eighth-seeded Calvary (11-6-3) has a bye and hosts the winner of Louise McGehee and Delta Charter in Round Two. This is the first time since the creation of the four divisions, seven years ago, that Calvary earned a bye.

Boys Division I

The No. 11 Byrd (14-6-4) squad hosts 22nd seeded H.L. Bourgeois (13-5-4) Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Byrd will either travel to Sulphur or host Barbe in round 2.

Captain Shreve (15-8-3) is No. 13 and hosts 20th seeded Mandeville (10-9-3) Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Lee Hedges Stadium. If Shreve advances it will either travel to Alexandria or host Fontainbleau, in Round Two.
