It has been a long time since Shreveport-Bossier has hosted a high school basketball classic with a ton of top teams and highly-rated talent. I mean CNB Times Classic long.
However, Saturday at Calvary Baptist, three of the top teams in Shreveport-Bossier will play in the inaugural Extravaganza Classic against what is considered the best of the best.
Woodlawn will be the first local team to hit the court on Saturday as they play perennial Class 5A power Ouachita. The Knights duo of do-it-all guard Andri Lewis and sharpshooting Donavan Seamster will look to tame the Lions as they make the trek down I-20 from Monroe.
The Calvary Cavs will follow the Knights as they will square off against Division I/5A powerhouse Scotlandville at 4:30 p.m. The big man matchup in this one will be one to watch as Labree Williams (no. 4 rated in the class of ‘22) will face-off against the Hornets 6-foot, 10-inch center Dorian Booker.
A battle of top rated teams will makeup the 7:30 p.m. nightcap as 3A no. 2 Bossier will play 4A no. 2 Carver. The Rams have two of the top five players in the class of 2022 in forward, and Texas A&M signee, Solomon Washington and Dorian Finister. Bossier has their own top 10 player in Joseph Manning. Both teams will be looking to capture a signature win as they jockey for playoff positioning in their respective class.
“This will give the basketball fans up here an opportunity to see teams from Baton Rouge and New Orleans that they always hear about but never see, said Calvary Baptist head coach Vic Morris. “It also gives our players and teams an opportunity to compete against kids they do not usually see until the playoffs.”
“Mal Mundy always does a great job putting these things together and matching up teams,” Morris said.
Saturday will begin with a high caliber matchup as Class B no. 1, and defending champion, Simsboro plays Division I no. 2 St. Paul’s at 1:30 p.m. Defending 5A state champion Zachary will play 3A power Wossman at 6 p.m.
